Head Coach

Katie Maurer is a graduate of Texas A&M University – Gig 'Em! – with a Bachelor of Science in Industrial Distribution Engineering. She is originally from the Austin area and attended McNeil High School.

2025-26 will be Coach Maurer’s second year as Head Coach and third year teaching Business classes at Vandegrift. Before transitioning into her teaching profession, she served as an Account Manager at Dell. Becoming a teacher and coach at VHS has been the most rewarding decision that Coach Maurer has made.

Coach Maurer’s brings a strong foundation in precision, teamwork, and discipline. She believes that fostering confidence, building community, and having fun are integral parts of a successful team. Not only does she want to see the athletes succeed inside the gym, but also outside in their classes and extracurriculars. 

Coach Maurer is looking forward to another year of watching the athletes cheer on Viper football on Friday nights and a great season at UIL and NCA competitions. Go Vipers!

Mackenzie Singer

JV Cheer Coach

Mackenzie Singer is a proud graduate of Baylor University, where she earned a Bachelor of Science in Cell and Molecular Biology. Sic ‘em Bears! She grew up in the Chicago suburbs and her family moved down to Austin, Texas in 2019. 

The 2025-26 school year will be Coach Singer’s second year at Vandegrift High School. During the 2024-25 school year, she served as the school’s permanent substitute and volunteered with the cheerleading team. Before transitioning into education, she worked in the dental field as a dental assistant and was on the path to dental school before discovering her true passion for teaching and coaching.

Coach Singer brings over six years of cheerleading experience, including both all-star and school cheer, as well as four years of coaching during her time in high school. Her goal is to help athletes develop confidence, character, and a strong sense of community while creating lasting memories and having fun.

Coach Singer is thrilled to continue supporting the Vandegrift cheerleaders and is looking forward to this next season. Go Vipers!

Sydney Warnock

JV Cheer Coach

Sydney Warnock is a graduate from Mississippi State University with a Secondary English Education degree. Hail State! She grew up in Leander Independent School District and was heavily involved in both competitive cheer, and the Vista Ridge Cheer Team.

The 2025-2026 school year will be Coach Warnock’s second year teaching English II, and her first year teaching and coaching at Vandegrift. She has always had a passion for both education and cheer, and is super excited to start her “dream job!” She cannot wait to make memories and have a wonderful year. Go Vipers!

Coach Singer and Coach Warnock's main role will be to Coach the JV team. They will attend practices, games, events, etc. In addition, they will support the Varsity team when needed. Lastly, they will play a huge part in leading our competition team to success.

I feel beyond grateful that they both chose the Vandegrift Cheer program, and we are so lucky to have them. They each bring years of experience (both sideline and competition), strong leadership, and a passion for developing athletes both on and off the mat.
